ガイスラーはStill Lifeとして日常に何気なく存在している物、又は忘れ去られた物、“キッチン用品、グラス、ソースパン、古木、石、枯れ草、さびたワイヤー”などを用いて写真を制作しています。作品は、バウハウスの影響と見られる抽象的なコンポジションとミニマリズムに徹したシンプルな画面の中で、プラチナプリントの持つ美しい質感によりガイスラー独特のフォルムを創りだしています。
展示は二つのシリーズ“On the Developing Line”と“Whetstone”から構成されています。
“On the Developing Line”では、どの作品もイメージ上の水平ラインが強調され、画面の中で最も重要なエレメントとなっています。「私は写真家である前に、自由なアーテイストでありたい」ガイスラーにとって水平ラインは、子供が最初に絵を描くとき、また画家が最初に描く線として、ファインアーツフォトグラフを創る時の大きな物理的要素でありまた心理的基盤となっています。
もうひとつのシリーズ“Whetstone”では20×24インチの大型カメラで撮影しており（プラチナプリントは引伸し機を使わない密着プリントなので、大きな作品を作る場合は大型カメラを使用するか、ネガの拡大作業が必要)、シンプルな画面の中にフォーカスされた部分とアンフォーカスの部分、白から黒に移行する明暗の対比などが縦横に組み合わされ、基軸となる写真的要素が大きな画面とシンプルな構成の中で見事に熟成されています。
4×5インチプリント10点、20×24インチプリント8点（エデイションはすべて10点のみ）のクオリテイー高いガイスラーのプラチナプリント写真展は2006年のFOTOSPHEREーNY展のあと、今回日本で初の展示となります。
ガイスラーは1952年ドイツ生まれ、30年近くケルンに住み、プラチナプリントをはじめとする古典技法（オルタナテイブプリント）で作品を制作しています。ドイツ、スペイン、フランスなどヨーロッパで多くの展示を得て、作品はケルンのルードヴィヒ美術館などに収蔵されています。
Claus Dieter Geissler lives in Cologne and has been working as a photographer for more than 30 years. Independent on mainstreams and references of the art scene, he has found his very own language of pictures dealing with still life. He works exclusively in black-and-white and with large-format cameras, whereas his main focus is the creation of platinum-palladium-prints, produced in his own dark room. The starting point of his works is always the compositional creative potential of painting. He reduces his motifs to abstract views of simple things of daily use and oddities. Thereby he achieves an awareness of the “less” and the silence. His works are collected by L’Antic Theatre Barcelona, The Photographic Collection of Museum Ludwig in Cologne and many private collections.
